Making a Moon Colony with Scale Models

Beam to the moon

Planetary Studies

5th and 6th Grade Proportions and Astronomy

Using math ratios through a simulation

Math and Science

Math and Science rocks!

S: students will use knowledge about the moon and human needs to explore how it would be possible to colonize the moon

T: students would use NASA created resources as well as iPad models and lessons to create scale models and diagrams

E: Students would build a scale colony in science

M: Students would plan colony using ratios, percents, and proportions

Shooting Monkey's to learn projectiles

Science and Math together makes sense!

I love STEM

Rocket launching on the turf

Rain or shine

Blasting off with Rockets and Geometry

5th grade Physical Science and Math

Science: Students use Newton's Laws of Motion to understand Rocketry

Technology: Using design apps on ipad, as well as tech simulations, students predict outcomes of rocket launches

Engineering: Materials such as soda bottles, foam, duct tape, clay, and cardboard, students build rockets in science class based on designs created in math class

Math: During Geometry lessons, the context of rockets is used to generate ideas about authentic and applicable application of shapes, scale, and measurement
