What is Desertification ?
How it's caused
Desertification is a type of land degradation in which a relatively dry land region becomes increasingly arid, typically losing its bodies of water as well as vegetation and wildlife. It is caused by a variety of factors, such as climate change and human activities.
Desertification is caused by a combination of factors that change over time and vary by location. These include indirect factors such as population pressure, socioeconomic and policy factors, and international trade

Solutions
Resting the land by reducing or removing livestock
In humid areas, ecosystems can heal when given time to rest with no human disturbance. However, in the lower and more erratic rainfall grassland environments, rest means that dying plant material shifts from a rapid biological decaying process caused by pollution
Planting grass and/or trees
Planting grass cannot reverse desertification because it does not address why the original grass plants died in the first place. Planting trees cannot reverse desertification in most places because the advancing desert lands don’t provide enough effective rainfall for trees to regenerate and in some cases even survive.
