LADY BRACKNELL

BY SOPHIE AND VERONICA

THANKS FOR WATCHING

WHAT DO THESE LINES REVEAL ABOUT LADY BRACKNELL?

The first quote reveals that she has strong opinions on the society, and is very against education, especially for women and the lower classes.

The second quote shows that she thinks social standing is very important and class determines everything. This is perhaps why Wilde positions us to dislike her overly sensible nature. These quotes also show how trivial the upper class is, and how much of a gullible follower Lady Bracknell is of the trends in the society.

BEST LADY BRACKNELL LINES, AND WHY

'Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately, in England at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever.'

This is one of her best line as it shows the stance the upper classes had on education.

'To lose one parent, Mr Worthing, may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness.'

This is one of her best lines as it shows how the upper class placed a lot of emphasis on the parents status and the lineage of the person in consideration, and it shows how personal family history was valued greatly.
