After being immobilized for so long I was gaining huge amounts of weight. Throughout 6th grade my struggles got worse and worse. I was going to a therapist constantly but I was just so negative and depressed.
After 6th grade I started swimming again and weaning off lots of the medications. I was loosing lots of weight but I still couldnt see it. All I saw was this bigger girl I had become. One of the things I used to say was "I WILL list 5 to 10 good qualities that I have, such as understanding, intelligence, or creativity." (Unit 7.1). Throughout the next year my mom would make me tell her my good traits.

To overcome these issues one should work toward a positive body image
When I was in 5th grade I was diagnosed with a nerve disorder and I spent many months in the hospital and I was taking 10-14 pills two to three times a day. Before this disorder I was extremely active and one of the top fastest swimmers in my age group in the state.
I still have bumps in the road and struggles but for the past year I have been very happy and increasingly confident. I wouldn't be here without my family and friends. It took lots of work but now I see that it was worth it.

A positive body image is when you see yourself how you really look.
Struggling with a negative body image is a very difficult thing to overcome. One will need to create a habit of telling themselves good things or resisting yourself from criticizing yourself.

eating" (Unit 7.1)
The media has been shown through research to be a large impact on someone to have a negative body image.
