HOW THE TLP'S AND 8 STEP TRAINING MODEL OVER LAPS

Step 8: Retrain

  • Be prepared for opportunity training
  • Review your references and keep them up to date

Step 7: Evaluate the Training

  • Was there an evaluation/AAR done after training?
  • Were the objectives/standards met?
  • Were the materials/training aids sufficient?
  • Record the Results in a Leader's Book

Step 6: Execute!

  • Is the training conducted to standard?
  • Are the Soldiers accounted for?
  • Is everyone in the proper uniform?

Step 5: Rehearsals

  • Probably MOST IMPORTANT STEP
  • Can be simple! (Verbal, walk through)
  • Reinforces CDR's expectations of the training
  • Reinforces Trainer's understanding of the plan
  • ID weak points in the plan
  • DOES THE TRAINING FLOW (no wasting time)
  • Are the materials present and OPERATIONAL?
  • PRE COMBAT CHECKS/INSPECTIONS!!!

Step 4: Issue Order

  • Notify your troops! Let them know what is about to happen
  • 5 W's (Who, What, When, Where, Why)

Step 3: Recon the Site

  • Is the site suitable for training?
  • Is it easily accessible in case of emergency?
  • Which equipment would be placed where?

Step 2: Train the Trainers!

  • Has the Trainer's Training Outline been reviewed?
  • Is the Trainer technically/tactically proficient?
  • Does the Trainer have/understand the TCS?
  • Review References (FMs, TMs, doctrine up to date?)
  • Is the Trainer's evaluation procedure in compliance with the training objective?

Step 1: Plan the Training!

  • What is to be trained?
  • What is the METL assessment?
  • Who is to be trained?
  • Identify the Instructor/Asistant Instructor
  • Date Training was planned/executed
  • Is the Training Site coordinated?
  • Are all Resources coordinated?
  • Identify the materials/training aids required
  • RISK ASSESSMENT
