There are many geographical features of salinas valley like how it lies between two mountain ranges. Also it is along the costal region in california which are gabilan and santa lucia. the valley is known forits crops such as strawberries, lettuce,celery, and, spinach.
The type of work that was availiable was picking crops, working on the land,also it was mostly agriculture,manual labor, and canning factories.
The relationship between The Salinas Valley and John Steinbeck is, he had his early education there, wrote his first stories there when he was a teenager.

In the book of mice and men John steinbeck wanted to show how the people went through and to show inspriation based on having dreams. Also, to show the way it was for women and represented the black people. Another thing was the heartless men that watched over the slaves.
John Steinbeck had lots of success during his life time. He wrote The Grapes of Warth, The pearl, East of Eden and Mice of Men. In the 1940s John Steinbeck won the Pultizer Prize & National Book Award for the book he wrote "The Grapes of Warth."
I think the authors pick particular settings because it has to set the mood for the character. Another example is that the setting can tell time and date. A reason authors have to pick a setting is to make the novel more colorful or more interesting.
