MLA Formatting: In Text Citations

In Text Citations:

What is MLA Formatting?

- Your in text citations are the citations that are "right there" in your essay.

Examples:

- MLA formatting is specific way to write an research essay.

- It involves citing (or giving credit to) the sources (articles, books, etc) you used in researching your paper.

- Here is an example:

People remember her as a strong ruler

("Kingdom").

- In 1635, Ginga formed an alliance with the kingdoms of Kongo and Kassange (O'Shaughnessy).

- People remember her as a great diplomat, a fierce leader, and a strong ruler ("Kingdom").

Citing Your Sources In Text

MLA formatting is broken down in two parts:

1. Works Cited Page

- Most of your research is from articles your found online.

- If you know the author your in text citation will be the authors name in the parentheses.

- If there is no author you will put the article's title (with quotation marks)in the parentheses.

2. In Text (In Essay) Citations
