  • Coordination
  • Strength
  • Reflexes
  • sensation

Neurologist:

Signs & Symptoms

Symptoms Video

Complications

Muscular Cramps

Stiffness

Myotonia

Hiperhydrosis

Myokymia

Fasculation

Pseudomytonia

There are no real complications but the gravity of the symptoms may vary. NMT is linked with cancer but not very common.

Prognosis

Neuromyotonia prognosis can sometimes be found my underlying cancer.

Oxaliplatin can lead to neuromyotonia.

Definition

Neuromyotonia (NMT) is a form of peripheral nerve hyperexcitability that causes spontaneous muscular activity resulting from repetitive motor unit action potentials of peripheral origin.

Treatment

Etiology

Anticonvulsants, including phenytoin and carbamazepine, usually provide significant relief from the stiffness, muscle spasms. There is no cure but medications relive pain.

Bibliography

What is Neuromyotonia?
