ROLE OF THE SPARTAN KINGS:
- Chief Priest
- Commander in Chief of the army
- Judge
- Lawgiver
They were drawn from the royal families:
- The AGIADS
- The EURYPONTIDS
During the classical period, Spartas politics were different from Ahtens politics
Each month the Kings and EPHORS exchanged oaths. EPHORS swore to maintain the kingship and the Kings swore to rule according to the laws.
The OLIGARCHIC- the kings are automatic members of the GEROSIA, the council of 28 elders picked for life plus the two kings.
