The Mali Civilization ate different types of food. Some are similar to ours where others are different.
The clothing styles for women and men in Ancient Mali did not differ as much as clothing today. Both loved to wear tunics and dresses as garments.
Story Telling- Griots (Mali Storytellers) were village entertainers and historians. They would tell folktales and stories about the great leaders of Mali.
They ate many grains which are rice, mallet, etc. They often made porridges with these grains.
Mali is famous for a rough-cotton textile called mud cloth. This cloth is often used to make a colorful men's shirt called a dashikis.
They ate these grains with fish, meat, and vegetables
.
Music- Traditional Mali music consisted of many rhythms and melodies which happened at the same time. Some instruments used were strings, flutes, and a lot of drums. One unique instrument is called the kora which has 21 strings .
Silk skirts, tunics, and long dresses were popular choices for Mali women. Most also wore matching headscarves.
Textiles- Textiles were typically colorful and patterned. Some of these textiles were made by beating designs cut on stamps onto cloth. Textiles were done only by women

Mosques- In Ancient Mali, the people were mostly Muslim being influenced by the Muslim traders from the north. Because of that, the Malians made mosques. The architecture of the mosques were really cool as the Malians made it out of sun dried mud and tree branches.
Wood Carving- The ancient Malians made various wood carvings including statues, masks, etc. The intricate design on them makes them look very detailed. There are different types of masks like the chiwaras and the Dogon masks. When a Dogon dies, it is believed that it's spirit is still living in the mask.
Mali Art- The Malians had different ways of expressing their art. They expressed it through their literature, music, statues, drawings (tapestries).
