Imagery and more...

A simile is also used in this poem to say how fast the Eagle fell from the sky. I know this because the poet likens the eagle to a thunderbolt falling from the sky.

Another thing used in this poem is repetition. For repetition the poet constantly uses the word ''he''.

There is also rhyme in this poem they rhyming pattern in this poem is AAA,BBB. For example ''hands, lands and stands'' and ''crawls, walls and falls''.

The poet uses lots of imagery in this poem to suggest that the eagle is up high, for example ''the wrinkled sea beneath him crawls''. I know that this is imagery telling me that the eagle is high because the further away from the sea you get the slower it becomes, so if to him the sea is crawling then he must be very high up.

In this poem there is also rhythm,

for example I found that each line has eight syllables in it. I also know that the poem has a slow but constant beat to it. I know this because when you say the poem fast you don't get chance to understand the true meanings of the words. When you say it slowly you get the chance to think about the meanings, but not too slow otherwise it gets boring.

Also in this poem personification is used as the poet refers to the eagle as ''he'' and he has ''hands'' which an eagle wouldn't have.

The tone of this poem I think could be either negative or happy.

In this poem alliteration is used for example ''he clasps the crag with crooked hands'' and ''lonely lands''. I know that these are alliteration because all the letters in one line begin with the same letter.

In this poem I have found there to be a lot of poetic devices which i am going to tell you about.

On one hand this poem could be a rather happy tone because the eagle might just be an eagle falling down to get his dinner.

However the poem could be negative. I think that the poem could be negative because it could be about a person dying. I think this because when he says ''and like a thunderbolt he falls'' this person could have died while in the air. So by the time it reached eye level it would have been falling probable as fast as a thunderbolt. I think that this is why the poet has likened the eagle to a thunderbolt.

The Eagle

First of all in the poem the eagle I found that the attitude in this poem towards the eagle was very respectful. I think that the poet is respectful to the eagle because an eagle is a majestic bird
