Beowulf Timeline (Calvin Lee & Frederick Tai)

Battle of the Lake

Grendel's Defeat

The Spoils

Herot's Crisis

The story of Beowulf begins when Herot undergoes attack by a fearless monster known as Grendel. This monster is able to kill thirty people in one sitting and escape before anyone is able to react. The townsfolk do not know how to react other than to escape Herot.

After Beowulf and Wiglaf slay the dragon, Beowulf requests to see the treasures they had won. The treasures were in great amounts and high quality. With the sight of his treasures, Beowulf finally passes away, and a tower is built in his memory. Every time a traveller passes by, they aspire to become just as brave and strong as Beowulf.

That same night of arrival, Beowulf disguises himself among the sleeping warriors to defeat Grendel. When Grendel arrives, Beowulf is able to challenge him head on and match Grendel's power and speed, eventually ripping his arm off, forcing Grendel to retreat back to the lake. Beowulf keeps Grendel's arm as a trophy.

Beowulf takes the fight to Grendel's mother after she steals Grendel's arm back. After seemingly diving for several hours, Beowulf is finally met by Grendel's mother. His sword, Hrunting, is melted, and his helmet is severely damaged. Despite those odds, Beowulf is able to defeat Grendel's mother with a jeweled sword nearby. He is warmly greeted by the Geats after he emerges from the lake victorious, as his followers thought that Beowulf had perished.

The Final Battle

The Meadhall

Beowulf's Arrival

After the seemingly easy battle that showcased just how powerful Beowulf is, a celebration is called for. Numerous rewards were offered to Beowulf, but Beowulf decides that it isn't enough just to kill Grendel, but to purge the evil at the source, and that source is Grendel's mother.

Nobody in Herot is able to defeat Grendel, and it seems that nobody will give help. However, Beowulf arrives unannounced with the mission to purge all the evil in the land. Unferth, Hrothgar's right hand and servant, questions Beowulf's achievements, but Beowulf counters with his tales at sea battling monsters from the deep.

After ruling Herot for 50 years, the tranquility is broken when a dragon threatens the town. Like any other challenge, Beowulf faces the dragon head on. Unfortunately, this battle will not be won as easily as the others. The dragon's scales are near impenetrable, and its breath melts metal on touch. With no assistance from his so called brave warriors, Beowulf fought the battle with help only from Wiglaf. Thankfully, the battle was won, but Beowulf was mortally wounded.
