Stephen is the main character. He goes to Johannesburg to find his son and sister while his wife encouraged him to go and find them.
John is a politician in Johannesburg and he fights for the rights of blacks yet he's weak. His son got in a mix up of the crime with Absalom but got discharged with the other guy.
James Jarvis is the father of Arthur and is devastated about his death. He owns some land of Ndotsheni by Kumalo's home. Arthur was murdered by Absalom and he fought for native rights. His mother Margaret is so upset about his death but she tries to stay strong. Mr. Harrison blames the Africans for everything that's wrong in south Africa, father of Mary and John. Mary is the mother of Arthur's kids and his wife. She shows her ideas to her husband. John is Mary's brother and he believes in equal rights.
Absalom/His wife
Absalom is Stephens son who's trying to get out of jail for a robbery. While his wife is with Stephen. She's also pregnant with Absalom's baby.
