environmental problems

including...

Animal Facts By Emma

A lot of animals are endangered. Some of the animals that are endangered are Bengal tigers, Pandas, Vaquitas, Ganges River Dolphin, Snow Leopard, and Leatherback Turtle. In this part of presentation there will be facts about those animals like their diet, habitat, how many left, also why they are endangered.

Bengal Tigers

How many are left?

Habitat

  • They live in Bangladesh, India, and in Nepal.
  • 1,706–1,909 in India
  • 440 in Bangladesh
  • 163–253 in Nepal and
  • 67–81 in Bhutan

Why are they endangered?

Diet

Organizations that Help Animals

  • they are carnivores
  • they like big prey
  • they also eat smaller prey
  • They are endangered from killing them for illegal trade of their skin and body parts.

There are many organizations that help conserve wildlife. You can get memberships to many of them.

Causes of Endangered and Extinct Animals By Leah

Some of the causes of extinction and endangering animals are habitat loss (deforestation), overfishing, pollution, and illegal trade. Humans cause many of these problems and we need to find a way to stop it. Visit the WWF site to learn about these problems in more detail.

Vaquita

How many are left?

Habitat

  • There are about 100-300 left.
  • They live in the Northern Part of the Gulf of
  • California in lagoons.

Pollution

Diet

Why are they endangered?

  • habitat loss
  • low birth rate.
  • Their diet is 99% bamboo.
  • Sometimes they eat grass
  • meat from birds.
  • Pollution causes muddy landscapes, poisons soils and waterways, and kills plants and animals

Organizations that Help Animals:

  • Pollution is made up of ocean litter, pesticides and fertilizers, air pollution and noise and light pollution

  • Ocean litter kills off many animals because they ingest it or get caught in the garbage patches

WWF is an organization

that helps wildlife.

They have over 5 million

supporters worldwide

  • Pollution causes greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming

Deforestation

  • Humans have cut down 17% of the Amazon rain forest in 50 years
  • Every minute, the amount of forests getting cut down is the size of 36 football fields
  • Around 80% of the world's documented species can be found in tropical rainforests, some of which are defenseless against deforestation
  • 137 species of animals are becoming extinct every day because of deforestation

Overfishing

Thank You for Watching This Presentation!!!

  • Only 1.6% of the worlds oceans are MPA's (marine protected areas) and 90% of the MPA's are open to fishing
  • Many fishing fleets catch more than two and a half times more than what we need to feed us
  • Overfishing is caused when people catch more fish then nature can replace at once
  • More than 85% of the worlds fisheries have been pushed beyond their biological limits

Ganges River Dolphin

Habitat

How many are left?

  • There are about 2,00 left.
  • rivers in India
  • Bangladesh
  • Nepal
  • Pakistan

Diet

Why are they endangered?

fish like

  • catfish,
  • fresh water sharks,
  • gobies,
  • carp.
  • They are endangered because natural rescues are depleting.
  • pollution and that leads to them having no food.
  • hunted for oil and food
  • get caught in fishing nets
  • people destroy there homes

Snow Leopard

Habitat

How many are left?

  • mountain ranges in Central

and South Asia.

-Global Warming

  • 4,510 to 7,350 left

Diet

Leatherback Turtle

  • big prey (sheep)
  • small prey (rabbits)

Habitat

Why are they endangered?

they can be found in Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, as well as the Mediterranean Sea. Mostly in warm water

  • people hunt them and kill them for their bones, skins, and organs
  • growing crops on their natural habitat.

the cat lived on the world that lived in the universe

Illegal Trade

  • around 17,000 tusks have been taken from elephants. those elephants have died.
  • with over 900 rhinos poached in 2013 alone.
