Force

Force, force is anything that makes an object speed up slow down or change direction (push or pull). A good example of force is gravity and friction. Force is measured in Newtons.

Balanced Forces

Balanced Forces examples

One example for balanced forces is tug of war. When you play tug of war with a person exactly like you it isn't fun, because no one will win because you have the exact same amount of strength, and you are the exact same size. So it is balanced because there is no force pulling one way to make the other person loose their grip.

Balanced forces do not cause any change in motion. They are equal in size, and opposite in direction. The two forces (balanced and unbalanced) cancel each other out and the resulting force is zero.

Unbalanced Forces

Unbalanced Forces examples

unbalanced forces are kind of like a teeter-totter, if you are on a teeter-totter with your mom/dad it is not as fun because your mom/dad is bigger than you so you are always in the air.

Unbalanced forces always cause a change in motion, their combined force is equal to the difference between the two forces. They are not equal and opposite in size or in direction.
