Race is a constructed identity. The various "races" are not biologically based.

No biological basis for dividing the human species into four or five groups based on skin color exists.

Race: A group with which people identify, determined by the area of the world in which they or their ancestors have originated. People may choose one race or more than one race when completing the 2010 Census questionnaire. www.census.gov

Instead, racial categories are the product of how particular cultures have viewed skin color. What does skin color say about a person?
