Conclusion

What have we learned from researching and analyzing these fairy tales, fables, and ballads

Cinderella

By: Brittany Windsheimer & Shawn Imran

The Disney Cinderella does not show the pressure of society, like being of a certain social class or race. Instead Cinderella is now about domestic trouble in the household. Cinderella is bullied by her stepmother and stepsisters. She has a sad life being put down but in the end it doesn't really matter because she is now a well loved princess

In the live adaptation her actual name is Ella, but one morning she sleeps next to a fire place and her face gets burnt, so her sisters teasingly call her Cinderella.

The plot stays true to the Disney version but it doesn't reference the original.

Rhodopis

Rhodopis is the most inspiring Cinderella story, it is not merely a story of breaking through social classes, but also breaking through

racial prejudices. The egyptians were a great civilization and they looked down upon the Greeks. This added a very historical element, and this was also the original Cinderella. The heroine is made a slave and eventually ends up with the same ending as Cinderella

Robin Hood

Robyn Hode

Disney plot-

Before the story of Robin Hood as a fox, Disney planned on making a film on Reynard, an anthropomorphic fox also known as the trickster figure in French, Dutch, English, and German fables. Concerns of Reynard being no hero, the animator decided to change it to one of the most influential trickster who isn't evil, Robin Hood. This version of a suave Robin Hood is more child friendly.

Live Action (2010) plot-

In 13th century England, Robin Hood and his band of marauders confront corruption in a local village and lead an uprising against the crown that will forever alter the balance of world power. This version of robin hood is more political.

The stories taught to our ancestors are being altered. Reading stories teaches us lessons that transcend through time and culture, each lesson is different with the plot and over time the translation of some plots do not stay true to the original. The ballad of Mulan used to show how women should act but the altered Disney version shows that women are as just as good as men. Robin Hood has been changed from being a rogue to showing how he can be a revolutionary leader. Rhodopis is about fighting conformity and Cinderella is about rags to riches.

Robyn Hode tells the tale of a heroic syndicate called the merry men, they agreed amongst themselves that they would only rob the rich and give to the poor, in their time of need. In the story the rich are evil citizens who only want money from the poor so they tax them so much, their lives become difficult. The main themes in the story are Good vs Evil and Generosity.

Mulan

Hua Mulan

The life lessons learned in Mulan teach females of all ages that you should stand up for what they believe in, don't be afraid to be yourself, you control your own destiny, and you're stronger than you think. This is a good retelling of the story and it also stays faithful to the original.

In the live action version, "Mulan: Rise of a Warrior," she is depicted as an over sentimental, overemotional, girl trying to exercise her rights instead of the main plot being about a woman representing her family by going against all societal expectations. The movie is about lost love, depression and wishing she was somewhere else, while in the story she works hard because she knows she had to do it.

The Ballad of Mulan has inspired many Chinese women to defy traditional gender roles. In the last five years the traditional Chinese poem has been published in various versions of children's books. Before Fua Mulan, women were given expectations by society that were difficult to reach.
