Colors

There are many types of colors in the world. The primary colors are:

  • red
  • yellow
  • blue

The secondary colors are:

  • green
  • purple
  • orange

The intermediate colors are:

  • red orange
  • red violet
  • green yellow
  • yellow orange
  • blue violet
  • blue green

Red

  • Red is the highest arc of the rainbow.
  • Red is the first color you lose sight of at twilight.
  • The longest wavelength of light is red.
  • In the financial arena, red symbolizes a negative direction.

Orange

  • The interior dash lights on older model Suburu cars were orange.
  • Orange is the color that means “high” in the color-coded threat system established by presidential order in March 2002. This system quickly informs law enforcement agencies when intelligence indicates a change in the terrorist threat facing the United States.
  • In the United States Army, orange is the color of the United States Army Signal Corps.
  • Safety orange is a color used to set things apart from their surroundings. Safety orange is the color usually used in the United States for traffic cones, stanchions, barrels, and other construction zone marking devices.

Yellow

  • Yellow is psychologically the happiest color in the color spectrum.
  • In medical terms, a yellow flag indicates a quarantine.
  • 75% of the pencils sold in the United States are painted yellow.
  • The comic book character Green Lantern was afraid of the color yellow.

Green

  • Green was the favorite color of George Washington, the first President of the United States.
  • The color green signifies mystical or magical properties in the stories of King Arthur.
  • Green is the color used for night-vision goggles because the human eye is most sensitive to and able to discern the most shades of that color.
  • Bright green is the color of the astrological sign “Cancer.”

Blue

  • President Martin Van Buren is credited with introducing blue into the decorating scheme of the White House in 1837 and since then, there has been a “blue room” in the White House.
  • Powder blue is often used in products to promote cleanliness and purity.

Purple

  • Purple was the color of the first dye made by man. It was called “Mauveine” and was made out of coal tar. The recipe was discovered by William Henry Perkin in 1856.
  • Purple represents the planet Jupiter.
  • February is the month associated with the color purple and the birthstone for those born is February is amethyst.
