Daily 5's with Technology

Word Work Apps

The Lesson:

Students will use multiple apps on tablets to enhance the learning experience to meet common core objectives.

5 students a day will be able to use the tablets.

(about 30 minutes or during free time)

The inclusion on technology in the classroom will start the second week of school (everyday) until the last day of school.

Pick Up a Tablet and Read!

Sparkle Fish:

  • Helps you understand different words ex: Adverbs, Nouns, etc

Monster Town1:

  • Lots of different activity to help you understand how words work

Sight Word(touch photo):

  • Helps students practice sight words

Apps for Read to Self/Partner Read/Listen to Reading

Storia:

  • Scholastic books that can be read to you or can read to yourself

MeeGenuis:

  • Ebooks that can be read to you or read them on your own.

Timed Reading (read to self)

  • Times you while you read and ask you questions at the end

Sparkle Fish

  • Create stories using clues to help you fill in the blanks

Why do this lesson?

Challenges that might occur?

This lesson approach helps student improve on their Reading and writing skills, which is a big focus for English common core standards.

Students can do these activities at home as well. The lesson (I hope) makes students excited to read and write

Work on Writing Apps:

Some Apps might not have directions, so I will type up the directions for the all the apps and students can read the printed direction if confused

Battery problems could occur, make sure to charge tablets every night

Some apps might have downloads that cost money, do not add a credit card to school tablets

Not a Hole Story:

  • Tells a part of the story. Students will create the ending to the story.

Read on Sight:

  • Place words in the correct order in a sentence

Simple Minds:

  • Creates mind maps to help organize a story
