Sir Mackenzie Bowell’s rise came as much from public involvement as it came from journalism. He was a member and vice-president of the local board of agriculture and arts as well. In 1865, with Henry Corby, Billa Flint, and others, he set up and achieved a board of trade. Sir Mackenzie Bowell himself was a president and director of several companies besides the Intelligence. There was a school named after him. Bowell built an under water telegram cable between North America and Australia

Sir Mackenzie Bowell was born in Belle Ville in upper Ricking hall, England on December 27 , 1823. He died on December 10, 1917 in Belle Ville (Ontario). His term of office was from December 21,1894 - April 27,1896. He was 93 years old when he died. He died because of pneumonia.
