Before you start reading the book it states: Those who enter Fablehaven will not leave unchanged, and Kendra and Seth didn't leave unchanged they left with new hope and a new view of the world around them.
The theme of the book is determination because even after Midsummer Eve, a horrible night when evil creatures come out, their grandpa is abducted they keep searching for him and never give up even when all hope seems lost.
The main characters, Kendra and her little brother Seth, have been sent to their grandparents, they barley even know anything about, because their parents are going on a cruise they weren't invited to. They soon find out their grandmother has gone missing, and their Grandpa Sorenson isn't telling the truth about where she really is. They soon find out, after getting message to drink the milk that one of the workers puts out for the butterflies, that Fablehaven is no normal estate in the country. But it's a secret protected area for magical creatures, and their grandfather is the current caretaker of the unbelievable secret.
Brandon Mull kept his dream of being a novelist a secret because he didn't want anyone to think he was crazy. He "lived" in his head a lot as a kid and going on adventures and playing imaginary games with his friends and siblings. as he got older his stories got better and he decided he wanted to share them with others. He thought if he wrote a good scene he could maybe write a novel so in high school he wrote short fictional stories. He started working on his first full novel in 2000 but it was turned down because the publisher wanted something else so he came up with Fablehaven.
