By: Boston Doxtater

Cue for Treason

Cue for Treason, written in 1940, is a children's historical novel written by Geoffrey Trease, and is his most known novel. The story is told in first person and it's about a courageous boy and girl on a quest to save the queen of england. The mood is during a dark era of the world, and many faults are severly punished upon. The characters mainly journey between Cumberland and London, during the rulership of Queen Elizabeth the First!

Geoffrey Trease

Geoffrey Trease is the author of Cue for Treason, and is the author of 112 other books before retiring from his career due to illness. He died at the age of 88, and after his funeral he was never seen again.

Themes

Failure

There are two types of people in life,

ones that succeed in their purpose and

ones that don't. The main theme in the

book is purpose and, whether it be

large or small, you must carry it out

throughly and properly.

The Bigger Picture

However...

"Courage is not the absense of fear, but the judgement that something is more important than fear." - Ambrose Redmoon

Another theme, out of probably thousands, is courage. Courage is needed to fufill your purpose, and is closely related to the story and other theme. Peter displays courage with his actions, and purpose when he succeeds to save the queen.

Characters

Peter Brownrigg

Kit

Peter is the main character in the story and runs away from home, becomes an actor, uncovers the Conspiracy, and saves the queen. He has extremely bad luck and is easily angered. Especially when Kit keeps stealing his roles.

Kit is the second most important character in Cue for Treason. She is a runaway who joins with Peter and pretends to be a guy to become an actor (Actress.) She is tough, smart, and a great actor, and, unlikely as it is, just so happens to be the daughter of Sir Philip Morton.

Sir Philip Morton

Queen

She is a little character who is saved at the end of the book and rewards Peter and Kit with gifts.

Shakespeare

Sir Philip Morton is a cruel man who steals land from other people. He makes his first appearance when Peter throws a rock at him and appears within the book WAY too often to be realistic. He makes his second appearance when he runs into Peter at the during a play. His third when he runs into Peter and Kit at the theatre outside of London. His fourth at the peal tower, his fith when Peter escapes the island and stumbles upon him, his sixth when he attacks his families house, and his seventh near the end of the book.

The Desmonds

Shakespeare gives Kit and Peter a actors job in London. He is a very understanding man, a writer, and a kind gentlemen. He makes it feel safe to tell the truth on what happened instead of lying, and won't harm a soul.

The Desmonds give Peter and Kit their first acting jobs and help them get as far away from Cumberland as possible. Mr. Desmond is a little grouchy, but his wife makes up for it with her kindness and support.

Peters Family

Peters family is where the story started, and are known very well arounf the neighborhood of Cumberland. If you mess with the Brownrigg's, you mess with hundreds of other Cumberlands.

Tom Boyd

Tom Boyd was an agent for the Secret Service that fights to destroy secret plots and protect the queen. He and couple, Peter and Kit, go to Cumberland to investigate the Peel tower for signs of a gathering. He was a joyful man, but he died during investigation when an unexpected man got creapt up upon him.

"Yellow" Gentleman

This evil man is working hand in hand with Sir Philip Morton and is the one whom gets the information for the plan to kill the queen and sends word to other people of the same status (Or less) to meet at the peel tower. He was the one who snuck the script away from Peter.

Tone

The tone of the story is heavy determination, independence, and teamwork. Geffrey displays these emotions perfectly.

You're not as worthless, nor powerful as you may think. This book can teach people such as myself to be more self-cofident and deliver more self-respect. Courage is key in life, and it's one of the most admireable traits of a person.

Runaway

Plot Summary

In the beggining, Peter, his dad, and the community were taking down Sir Philips Wall. Peter was tired and distracted when Sir Philip came during his watch duty. He desperately threw a rock and ran away. When Peter found out that Sir Philip Morton found his hat, he was forced to runaway from home for fear of being caught and hung.

Actor group

Found a home

Peter and Kit searched all over for an actors job, but nowhere in London would except them, even with the note of recomendation. Luckily, Shakespeare finally found them and the 3 became a team. Kit loved Shakespeares writing, and with Kit's great acting, Peters perfect mimicing and humour, the people of London would soon discover the fantastic trio. And, for a while, Peter and Kit lived a regular life.

Runaway Peter Brownrigg luckily stumbled onto an actors travel group as they have been needing an extra actor. He joins the group and does his regular playings, until another runaway Kit joins the group. Kit takes the lead on the parts Peter was suppose to get, and he gets ticked. One day, the groups performance gets cancelled and they need to split up. Kit, Peter, and the Desmonds go back to their origanal actors group in London, and Peter realizes Kit's a girl. Together, with shakespeare, they make a living as actors.

Discovery

Horse Race

A perfect life, however for Peter, is an unlikely scene.

Peter accidently, by giving in to too much trust, gives away his script to a "Yellow" Gentleman. Peter luckily finds out his location and plots to steal it back. Peter overhears the Yellow Gentlemens conversation and realizes they are plotting something with Sir Philip Morton and are sendind out warnings to others. Peter and the Secret Service uncover the secret code letter and send Tom, Kit, and Peter to find the peel tower, learn their plans, and stop them before they succeed.

Vicotry

Peter, Tom, and Kit return to Cumberland, and find the Peel tower. They witness people entering the building and, when everyone leaves, Tom enters to investigate. He doesn't return. Peter enters to investigate. He doesn't return. He wakes up on an island, trapped for questioning. Luckily, he ceases his oportunity to escape and travels to his home to warn them. Kit and Peter go up against Sir Philip Morton in a race against time to stop the plot to kill the queen. Does Kit and Peter have what it takes?

Yes, yes they do, and in the end, Peter and Kit get rewarded by the queen, get married, and have children. They lived happily ever after...

The possibilities are pratically endless for you.
