Since an internship with the BAU isn't possible, I hope to obtain an internship in law to still gain experience and learn what it is like working in a career involving law.

A Career in the BAU

Statistics show that there will be an increased amount of jobs in the BAU. However, the BAU is difficult to get into, it is something you work up to. In the process of working up and gaining my 7-15 years of investigative work, I want to work in the CAC (Crimes Against Children) which deals with helping children who have been kidnapped or sexually harassed. There are plenty of jobs in the FBI, however it is extremely competitive and you have to work had to get up towards the higher and more rewarding positions.

The Behavioral Analysis Unit is one of the top bureaus in the FBI and combines psychology and criminal investigation. A career in the BAU involves anaylsis, interviewing, writing, public speaking, and assesing human behavior and group behavior.

It takes 7-15 years of investigative experience before transferring to the BAU. Most agents work in the FBI for this amount of time before applying to the BAU.

Average Yearly Salary- $123,758

Starting Yearly Salary- $105,211

Average High-Ranking Salary- $155,500

College:

Four years of coursework in psychology or criminal justice.

Why I Want to Be in the BAU-

Training:

Working in the Behavioral Analysis Unit is an exciting job that consists of lots of variety, excitement, and traveling. You may be analyzing conversations between terrorists suspects, going undercover and meeting with the source informing a mob, arresting a fugitive, and working in many more situations. There is not a dull day, and you're helping save people's lives. I find the psychology side of this career fascinating and study the different aspects of this career very often.

FBI Academy in Quantico Virginia - 4 months long. Training with an Agent-Profiler - 2-3 years long.
