Networking

Some useful sites for getting known and getting jobs:

G.A.N.G. is more about networking than anything else. Members can chat on forums, there are regular social events with professionals in the games industry, and occasionally discounts on various products.

Student membership currently costs USD $50 per year (roughly £30).

Game Audio Networking Guild

GameDev is a forum site made for people developing computer games.

Generally this will be other students or bedroom-programmers, but can be a great place to gain experience in working with real projects.

Whilst it's free to join, don't expect to get paid much (if at all) for any of your services.

Post-Production

Indie Wire

This is another forum, again largely at the indie or student developer, but this site is more dedicated to film rather than games.

Again it's free to join, and again don't expect to get paid much for any work you do as the people who use it don't tend to have much money. Great tfor gaining experience though.

Kemps isn't a forum, it's a directory site. You can search for film businesses in the UK by distance or production type.

Great for getting names and addresses to try to get a job from them.

Film Music Magazine

This site contains regular job updates for people wanting to make music for films.

You can join the Film Music Network (an organisation linked with Film Music Magazine) for USD $139 a year (roughly £100). This gives you a 67% discount on job application fees (yes, they charge you for the joy of applying to jobs on their site) along with some legal advice and access to things like a Rate and Salary Survey.

Mandy

This is purely a jobs website. Free to join and use, you can browse various music and/or film related jobs in the UK or across the globe.

Recent jobs advertised include a paid job as a dubstep composer in London as well as a music composer for a film made in Malaysia.

GamaSutra

A news and jobs site based exclusively for computer games. Articles as well as game developer studios and upcoming paid jobs get advertised here.

Free to join and use, though for paid jobs don't expect to get far without previous experience.
