Back in the day, Chariot Racing was a very popular sport. An average stadium for Chariot Racing could approximately hold 200,000 spectators. Most of the drivers were usually slaves. Usually driving Chariots were good for the slaves because it could keep them out of slavery. Many of the Chariot drivers lived in the stables with their horses. Chariot Racing was a very risky and violent sport.
Athletes were usually criminals who have lost citizenship and were prisoners of war. Some of the "free man" athletes devoted themselves and profession and also swore an oath that they would endure any duress. They were also mixed among the outlaws. The free and the wealthy enjoyed betting on many of the matches.

The right arm of the Fighter was used for fighting, while the left arm was used for defending. There was no time limit on the matches of the Boxers. If the match did go on for a long time, the Boxer could take time and take a break. Referees could also stop the match of it was going on for too long and have one opponent stand still and receive multiple blows without defense, until someone gave up.
The people in charge of the Roman Empire were so focused on entertaining thier people, and paying thier military that they didnt focus on other important things. This arrogance later lead to the collapse of the Roman Empire.
