If the men did wear clothing they would wear a piece of deer skin around the hips. The women wore aprons. In the winter the Maidus wore moccasins on their feet. Deer hide was wrapped around the lower part of the legs when it was snowy. Over their shoulders they would wear robes made of deer skins. Maidu women also wore a basket cap. For ceremonial purposes the men wore decorated net caps.
Shelter
By Helen Slawson
The Maidus lived in houses that were partly underground during the winter.Several families shared a house which was built during the spring when the ground was soft. The houses were round and anywhere from 20 to 40 feet in diameter. Some Maidu houses were cone shaped houses from holes covered in bark. These were smaller than the earth lodge houses.During the summer, the people made temporary shelters with no walls.
