For the final semester project, I chose to research about female body image in social media. Choosing this topic was pretty significant because it affects my everyday life and many others. As I got older, I started to notice how influential social media is on making one feel about themselves and the way they look. Social media doesn't affect one group but all groups of females, regardless of age or ethnicity. Being a nursing major, I thought it would be important to understand why it has become so influential because it may affect my patients and I never would want anyone to feel less of themselves based off what the internet says is "beautiful".

With many trends such as teas, pills, or droplets, have become popular today. Using celebrities to promote their products makes their followers seem that "if she can do it, so can I." However they may temporarily work they may cause damage to your body, which is why as a nurse major I find it important to learn how to maybe prevent women feeling like this is necessary.

For my research, my audience is women from all ages and race. As women become older and become self aware of others and looks, it is crucial to realize everyone is different for a reason. You should never feel you have to look a certain way to be this show stopping person. Beauty holds no standards, and all women should realize they are unique and beautiful regardless of what the media says.

Having limited knowledge about the history of female body image, I expect to see diversity in the different trends throughout time. Since social media hasn't always been around, I believe there will be other co factors on what female body standards were. I think digging into the history, I will get to see more of how it changed and may be why. The common saying "History repeats itself" might show in the trends from early 1900s to now. However, with the lack of social media in the early times, I believe that there may be a less negative impact on female body image. In today's society, women should have a large bust, small waist, and a large waist. But it wasn't like that always, throughout history the standards for a women's body as changed.
