Sumerians developed arithmetic to keep records of crops and trade goods

Sumerian number system was based on 60: from that we have 60 seconds in a minute and 60 minutes in a hour

Sumerians invented the plow and the wheel which helped them in their daily lives

The plow improved farming

The wheel improved the transporting of goods

The potters wheel improved the development of pottery

Sumerians used Bronze, mixture of cooper and tin to develop their tools

Social Classes: The kings and the priest were at the top of the social class

The Sumerians believed both the king and priest had connection with the gods

The upper class also included landowners, government officials, and rich merchants

Middle class were all free people such as artisans and farmers.

Slaves made up of lower class

Most slaves were taken as prisoners from war. If Sumerian parents died and were poor their children became slaves

Slaves could borrow money and conduct business

Women were included in all social classes, some became priestesses. Women own land, worked as weavers, artisans and merchants. The main role for women were raising children
