How and where do you get this fungal lung infection?

Prevention

Symptoms

By inhaling fungal spores in the air.

Northern United States and Southern Canada, where the fungus lives in soil near river beds.

There is no vaccine to prevent this fungal lung infection.

Avoid wooded areas where fungus is present. Also, avoid areas with moist soil and or rotting vegetation.

Initial- fever, chills, sweating, chest pains, difficulty breathing, hacking cough

Advanced- fungus can spread to other parts of the body, affecting: skin (bumbs), tissue surrounding bones (swollen), spinal cord (fungal meningitis), brain (headache and confusion)

Prognosis

Most heal within 6-12 months with treatment. Without treatment the lung infection worsens, but it rarely leads to death.

Life Expectancy: Normal after healing

Long term- in severe cases, Amphotericin B. is given in a hospital through a vain drip.
