- identity theft,digital theft (musics & movies), illegal prescription-drug sales, fraud, spamming and hacking.
- cybercriminals commit crime using Web and can easily get away with it.
- Internet boom guarantees an unending supply of cybercriminals.
Crime-fighters
- an organisation to counter and take action against cybercriminals.
- e.g. : Kroll Ontrack, ICG Inc. , Decision
Strategies & Cyveillance.
- cybercriminals has developed into a major business opportunity for cybersleuths.
Conclusion
Internet
- platform for open sharing of information
- borderless platform that connects everyone
Problems arise
- provide room for misuse
- too open space brings conflict of interest
Approach
- users must be educated to have a sense of responsibility to differentiate what is right and what is wrong
Invasion of Privacy
Past
- in traditional village or small town, everyone knew everyone else's secrets
- everyone was still comfortable even their secrets were shared out
Now
- we don't know who knows about us anymore
- personal information can leak out easily from the Internet
- anyone can see our details that we put up on the Internet
- privacy is about relationship, it is not about information

Users not aware that it is a wrong doing as it does not physically harm anything and it benefits them.

- platform for politicians to gain followers
- government able to reach out to more citizens
- a tool for politicians to spread their ideology
Bane
- no one is holding the authority on Internet
- politicians cannot control what the people see
- everything politicians do can be easily spreaded and exposed
Political Changes
Election of Barack Obama as President of U.S.
- Internet as a new medium
- took advantage of YouTube
- free advertising
- videos more effective than television
- able to re-watch his speech on race
Politicians
- changed the way they organize supporters, advertise to voters, defend against attacks and communicate with constituents.
Government
- strengthens connection with his constituents and their connection with the causes they care about
Citizens
- find past speeches that prove a politician wrong
- alert their fellow citizens
BUT IF WE CHOOSE TO EXPOSE OUR OWN INFORMATION, THEN WE SHOULD NOT BLAME OTHERS FOR PEEKING INTO OUR LIVES!

- terms and conditions that we had to agree in order to gain access
- oblivious to the exposure of our personal details

- broaden our social circle
- we can choose to control the exposure of our personal details

- a small piece of data sent from a website and stored in a user's web browser while a user is browsing a website.

- collects our infomations and shares

- it is convinient as it stores our information for later use
- website entrepreneurs can learn about their customers' tastes without intruding on their privacy

- gain more potential customers
- increase clientele
- saving cost in promoting products
- virtual access overcomes physical barrier
- wide range of target audience
Bane
- negative feedback on companies can be easily spreaded
engaged in conversation with digital "buddies"

- able to express their feelings
- obtain different point of views in certain problems

- living in virtual world
- giving wrong perceptions and ideas in certain problems
- more susceptible to the advertisements and promotions
- fall for gimmicks
