Standard font. 12 point in size. Double spaced (0" before & after). Aligned left or justified. All new paragraphs indented. Proper capitalization for titles. Literary titles properly formatted (long works, like novels, are italicized; shorter works, like stories & poems get quotation marks). Be specific; use titles, names of authors and characters, rather than generic pronouns. No Works Cited page necessary (unless using secondary sources). Place quotations around any words that aren't originally yours. Quotations are not necessary for paraphrased material. Cite the author's surname in parenthesis any time you include a quote or paraphrase. Do so at the end of your sentence, before the period. Incorporate quotes into sentences, even if you "prefer not to" (Melville). Take time to revise your essay. Proofread carefully to minimize grammatical/mechanical errors.
