  • Sewage is taken from homes and local businesses, also rain water is collected then its piped to the water treatment center
  • The sewage/water goes through the screening process which takes out any objects left in the water (wood, plants, etc)

Water storage

Coagulation & Sedimentation Process

The water then flows into a storage basin(water towers or a well). It is then distributed to the houses.(water towers refill over night and distributed to the houses.

  • The coagulation process is when water is mixed with aluminum and chlorine. The aluminum causes the water to form sticky globs which attracts bacteria. The bacteria is then killed by the chlorine.
  • The water and globs go into a sedimentation basin where the blobs set on the bottom and are then removed.

Water Treatment Cycle

Disinfection

Filtration

The water flows through filters of sand and gravel. This filter removes any remaining partials in the water.

During this last step, chemicals are added and chlorine is used again. This kills any other germs or bacteria present. This also keeps the water clean over time.
