Rhyme: the chiming effect in poetry

Word Choice: Poets create music in their poems through the words they choose.

Listen my children, and you shall hear

Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere,

On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-five

Hardly a man is now alive

Who remembers that famous day and year.- "Paul Revere's Ride" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

end rhyme- words rhyme at the end of lines

couplet- When two rhyming lines are consecutive

internal rhymes- words that rhyme within the same line

exact rhymes- cold and hold

near rhymes or( approximate )- sounds that are similar, but not exactly the same. fellow and follow

Repetition

Rhythm- the repetition of stressed and unstressed syllables

Rhythm provides the poem's beat

Meter- a regular pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables

The repeated beginnings and structures of lines that create a rhythm.
