RESEARCH QUESTION:

What was the Result of the

Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire?

What happened during the fire?

The fire started as a small fire, but has known in history, it had grew to be one of the most infamous factory fires in history. However, how come the fire wasn't extinguished when it started out as a small fire?

- According to History.com, there was a fire hose on the 8th floor, however, the valve was rusted and the hose was rotten so when the manager tried to put out the fire, it didn't work. Once the fire got to big, it was impossible to take out.

- There were only 3 ways for the workers on the 9th floor to reach ground floor and they were the elevator and the stairs, however, each had their own disadvantages.

- The elevator only made 4 trips to the 9th floor so some workers decided to jump into the elevator to meet their demise. In the end, the weight of the workers on top of the elevator and the heat of the fire caused the wires to snap, causing the elevator to fall to the basement

- The stairwell was another option to leave the building, however, once the workers reached to the bottom of the staircase, they found that there was a locked door in front of them so a lot of people burned alive in the stairs

- There was a fire escape, but it wasn't fireproof so when workers tried to get down through the fire escape, the fire escape ended up crashing to the ground because of the weight and the fire

- The 10th floor was notified of the fire, however, the 9th floor wasn't causing the mass fatalities

Lets look into the 9th Floor
