Classification of burn according to severity

Minor burns are defined by the ABA as

●Partial-thickness burns <10% TBSA in patients 10 to 50 years old

●Partial-thickness burns <5% TBSA in patients under 10 or over 50 years old

●Full-thickness burns <2% TBSA in any patient without other injury

To be considered minor, burns must also generally meet the following criteria:

●Isolated injury, So, NO suspicion of inhalation or high-voltage injury

●May not involve face, hands, perineum, or feet

●May not cross major joints

●May not be circumferential

Burn center referral criteria

  • 2nd degree > 10 % of TBSA
  • 3rd degree
  • burn include face, hands, feet, perineum and major joints.
  • electrical, chemical and inhalation burn.
  • Patient with preexisting medical problems
  • Concomitant trauma
