How effective Birth Right is

History of Birth Right

Does it work towards any

of the corporal works of mercy

I think this organization work does not work towards any of the corporal works of mercy.

Birthright began in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in 1968, when Louise Summerhill, a busy housewife and mother of seven children, felt something should be done to help women facing unplanned pregnancies.

Birthright takes a non-moralistic, non-judgmental approach toward helping women through their pregnancy dilemmas. The supportive homelike environment created at the beginning, and the Charter followed by all Birthright Chapters, defines Birthright's services. It ensures that pregnant women receive the same considerate treatment at every Birthright chapter. Birthright receives annual support for general operations from Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Toronto.

Function of Birth Right

History of Birth Right

Does the organization violates the idea of subsidiarity or not?

Birthright is unique. We provide non-judgmental support and love to pregnant women and their unborn children. Birthright is not involved in any religious movements, political activities, or lobbying. Our focus is on loving the mother, and helping her help herself.

Birthright is a non-profit charitable organization that has been providing love and support for over 45 years to women facing unplanned pregnancies.

With emotions overwhelming and circumstances seeming impossible, Birthright wants these women to know that they are not alone. There is hope for them and for their baby.

Birthright began very humbly in 1968, with a one-room office and only $300 in the bank. But Louise's steady leadership and powerful vision ensured that the new pregnancy service survived. In later years, Louise was glad the organization did not begin with a lot of money because it caused Birthright to rely on the "good hearts and hard work of volunteers". Over forty-five years later, Birthright International remains true to Louise's original vision of personal, one-on-one contact in helping relationships. Louise's Birthright means "approachability and informality" for clients and volunteers, instead of bureaucracy and meetings in highly structured, business-like environments.

I think the Birth Right organization

does not violate the idea of subsidiarity,

owing to this organization keeps helping

every woman who needs help.

Future plans of Birth Right

keep helping support women's desire not to have an abortion, including referrals to legal, medical and psychological services, as well as a range of community support assistance such as financial aid
