Mandaeism: ON BIRTH

-centered on the belief that the soul is an exiled captive on earth

-they believe their religion offers salvation that will allow the soul to leave the world after death and return to its divine source

-they believe the material universe is governed by the "7 planets"- Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, and the 12 signs of the zodiac

-monotheistic religion

-its followers think highly of Adam, Abel, Seth, Enosh, Noah, Shem, Aram, and John the Baptist

-they believe the world is a prison governed by the planetary archons, but do not view the world as cruel

-they reject Abraham, Moses, Mohammad, and Jesus of Nazareth

-they believe in marriage and procreation

-they DO NOT practice celibacy or asceticism

Celibacy: voluntarily being unmarried

Asceticism: denying bodily desires to draw

closer to God

Baptism for the dead:

-As death approaches, the person is bathed from water brought in from the river, the dying person is stripped and washed with a threefold sprinkling from head to toe. Then they are lifted onto clean bedding facing the North Star, and is then dressed in a new rasta, with gold thread sown on the right side of the stole, and silver thread sown on the left side

-weeping is forbidden

Their Views on Healthcare:

-Mandaeism religion does not believe in the act of circumcision

-Diet and Purity: food is ritually cleaned, such as fruits and vegetables, before being eaten, salt is the only exception

-kitchen utensils are frequently ritually purified

-priests can only eat the meals THEY prepare
