WHAT CAUSES LAND POLLUTION?

What Causes Land Pollution?

The contamination of land with toxic or noxious substances, known as land pollution, takes many different forms and has several different causes.

The chief causes include increased urbanization; disposal of non-biodegradable substances in garbage and litter; agricultural use of chemical herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers; dumping of industrial wastes; and the improper treatment of sewage.

AFRICA LAND POLLUTION

Increased Urbanization

As the world's population grows, so too do cities in order to accommodate the needs of their residents. Construction of housing, schools and businesses, for example, disturbs the soil and leaves residue of construction materials. The need for more roads and parking lots not only exposes the land to the pollutants in asphalt, but fluids from vehicles drip onto the pavements, eventually run off and seep into the soil.
