Fun facts!

  • Since octopi are color blind, they rarely use their chromophores and iridophores.
  • Octopi can also change texture, and even shape!

No, they cannot just turn into

a train, it's just changing their

form. Watch the video if you

don't understand.

But their best trick is an iridophore. These babies take whatever the octopus is touching, and instantly transform the octopus to that color.

Octopi are covered in tiny little cells called chromatophores, which allow it to change into red, yellow, orange, black, and brown. They open like elevator doors, so when they're closed, you see white!

These leucophores, unlike the

chromatophores, work like blinds.

When an octopus needs a

leucophorean color, it opens them so

that the color shines out.

Octopi will also have leucophores, cells that create blue, green, silver and gold.

How Does an Octopus Change it's Colors?

We all know they can do it, but how is a totally different question! Read on, find an amazing video, and if you remember what I said, you can figure out what's what!
