The football world cup is a major sporting event, that will be held in Russia, in 2018. It was first held in 1930 July 13th and took place in Uruguay, it has happened every 4 years since.

The last World Cup,in 2014, that was held in Brazil, had 5,154,386 people attending.

Sports tourism refers to travel which involves either observing or participating in a sporting event, staying apart from their usual environment. Sport is a fast growing area in tourism and the industry earns around $600 billion annually. This kind of tourism also gains money for locals.

These massive tourist events attract millions of people and help bring money in for locals. Tourists buy local items, food, and souvenirs. The local shopkeepers being bought from earn money. When tourists stay in hotels, the hotel staff, that are usually locals also earn money and tips. Sporting events increase the locals income.

These large scale football and sporting events increase the country's popularity in global and local standards. The World Cup attracts major football fans and people wanting to cheer for their country.

In conclusion sporting events increase tourism rates and raise money. They help the country's economy and increase the popularity of the country.
