Musicals have there own history.

  • Musicals have developed over time to include more technology and that is where we are headed.

Egyptians started theatre with storytelling and rituals

They tell the stories of how they were created, what great thing they accomplished, and how they died

Realism

People wanted real stories about real people

Henrik Ibsen was a very well known playwright who wrote for the Realism Genre

  • Neoclassicism was all about the rules
  • It was there to form the perfect play
  • Had to be in a 24 hour period
  • Stereotypes had to be exact (Stock Characters)
  • Moliere Broke neoclassical rules

Shakespeare became very popular during the Elizabethan Period

A new Genre was invented Tragicomedy

Melodrama was known for these Characteristics

  • Villian
  • Damsel in Distress
  • Music in the Background
  • Over-Dramatic Acting

Tragedy- Ended with death and destruction

Comedy- Ended with happiness and had comedic aspects.
