To Kill a Mockingbird

Chapter 29 Colorless

Victoria Villanueva

2. "His face was as white as his hands, but for a shadow on his jutting chin"

This is the first time we hear of any features about Boo Radley. It really shows us as the reader how long Boo has been away from people and has been isolated by just hiding away in his house. Finally getting to know features about Boo Radley was surprising since the whole book we heard nothing of his looks.

Quotes

For my symbol i choose the ham costume that Scout was wearing during the attack. Jem was taking Scout in her ham costume to the pageant. When Bob goes to attack them he tries to squeeze Scout to death, but her costume saves her life. She hated to wear the costume because it is itchy to her, but she realizes that it saved her life.

1. "I went to Atticus and felt his arms go around me"

This shows that even though Atticus is a lawyer and a very tough man, he truly cares for his children. He cares for Scout in a time of need. This is the scene where he puts down his brief case and opens his arms.

Chapter 29 starts off very tragic as we find out Bob Ewell was killed while he was trying to attack Scout and Jem. Sheriff Tate asks Scout to remind him about everything she could remember about the attack. Sheriff puts together that Bob was attempting to squeeze Scout to death because of the hole found in his clothes and skin which was from Scout's costume. Between Scouts details and Sheriff Tate's examination of the scene. Sheriff Tate and Atticus solve the attack together. When Scout starts to explain the part where a stranger jumps in and came to help them, Sheriff Tate asks who Scout thought it was. Scout then pointed to a stranger in the corner leaning against the wall. As everyone turned heads to stare at him he started to squirm up and he seemed to look very uncomfortable. Scout then observed him. She looked at his hands, hair, clothes and face. His features resembled to someone who had never left their house. As Scout and the strangers eyes meet his tension eases and he became more calm. He looks at Scout with a shy smile. Through the tears Scout then realized who it was. "Hey, Boo." she says. At last Scout meets Boo Radley.

Title

I chose "Colorless" as my title because it explains how Boo Radley was when he was found outside the house. That was a main and important part of this chapter. When Scout sees him leaning up against the wall squirming and very pale and colorless she noticed to who he was by looking at his features. She seemed to think the stranger who ended up to be Boo Radley looked like someone who has never left their house.
