Statistics

  • 3-6% of the adult population in Western countries experience depressive disorders
  • Women experience more depression symptoms than men
  • More people have MDD than Depression
  • Factors doctors take into consideration when prescribing treatment:
  • severity of your dysthymia symptoms
  • your desire to address emotional or sitational issues affecting your life
  • your personal preferences
  • previous treatment methods
  • Your ability to tolerate medications
  • Other emotional problems you may have
  • SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors)
  • Pharmocology better than psychotherapy, but combination is even better
  • Persistent Depressive Disorder
  • Chronic Depression
  • Necessary duration is 2 years
  • Less severe symptoms, but lasts longer
  • Can experience episodes of major Depression
