Ukrainian Bell Carol

Economy/Politics

Carol of the Bells, or Ukrainian Bell Carol, is a well known Christmas carol.

Ukraine has a system of government similar to ours. Their government is a democratic republic. They also have multiple parties.

It was composed by Mykola Leontovych. He was born in Monastyrok, Ukraine. He only lived for 42 years. (1877-1921)

Metal-works, machine building, construction, chemicals, food, and light industry are all very important jobs in Ukraine.

The first time Bell Carol was performed publicly in Ukraine was on January 13, 1916. This date was special, at least to some, because it is the date of New Year's Eve on the Julian Calendar. We don't find it special, unless it landed on a Friday, because we follow the Gregorian Calendar.

Brief History

The Carpathian Mountains are a chain of mountains that are very important to Ukraine. They are key tourist sites to the economy of Ukraine.

Ukraine has had a tumultuous history. While America earned its freedom fairly quickly, Ukraine's fight for independence was prolonged.

From the start, Ukraine had been ruled by other countries. After World War One, though, the country broke away from Russia. Their freedom was short-lived, though. Ukraine was soon incorporated into the Soviet Union.

Finally, in 1991, Ukraine declared its independence. It is a free country to this day, but is currently in political chaos.
