Walmart had been unethical by the way they treat people and the enviroment. In 2010 they had a whopping $419 billion of revenue, causing them to be less personal many would think. Although they made a lot of money, they still have 152 abandoned Walmarts in the United States. Two hundred ten new stores are planned to open in 2012, making the company even bigger. To make Walmart eco-friendly, it would take 300 years to reach 100% of renewable energy used. Now, less than 2% of energy consumption is currently from natural resources. 3.5-3.9 million metric tons of carbon dioxide is emitted into the atmosphere each year. Walmart also reaches out to China for many of their workers. Walmart's lack of compassion makes them unethical.
Bp has been unethical because on April 20, 2010, there was a large explosion that happened from the carelessness of the company. Millions of barrels of oil were spilled. This catastrophe is now known as the largest enviromental disaster in America. The company's reputation will be damaged for years because 11 people were killed and the enviroment was harmed. BP is a much smaller company than it was before the oil spill due the lack of customers unwilling to buy their products. Sixteen thousand miles of coastline were effected due to the oil spill, and many species of animals suffered. The company is facing major fines of 32 billion dollars in damage. After the accident BP's income fell 40%, and they lost 17.2 billion dollars. BP has proven that they are unethical in the last few years by harming the ocean population, and killing some of their workers. Congressman Fred Upton, John Boehner and John Kerry have all dropped BP's stock after the oil spill because of BP's loss of revenue.
Ethics are essential to run a good business, and should be practiced within a company. People have more respect for a buisness with more ethics than businesses that treat their workers poorly or hurt the environment. Many people will chose ethical companies over unethical companies. In other words, companies should set aside a code of ethics so that their company can prosper and gain a profit.
Marlboro has been unethical by the way they treat their products and their customers. As an example, the company has had their customers make their own cigarettes to avoid the cigarette taxes. By doing this it makes the government lose money due to the taxesand helps the buisness thrieve. Another example is the fact that Marlboro has made an assortment of flavors of their cigarettes. This way their customers have a choice to which flavor they want to have and they don't reailize how the flavor doesn't matter it's what's inside the cigarette that matters. Marlboro's lack of customer satisfaction and is why they are unethical.
