They sometimes eat each other

Some female fireflies will flicker their lights to fool males into coming close, then the females will eat the males!

Their light produces no heat at all

They flicker their lights as a mating ritual

This light is known as "bioluminescence" and it is a result of a chemical reaction inside their bodies. It is also known as "cold light."

Fireflies are a member of the Coleoptera order of insects.

When fireflies are in their larval stage, they glow to warn potential predators not to eat them, because they contain toxins that could harm the predator.
