Both types of stars share similarities. They each help scientists find the mass, size, brightness, etc. of other stars around them. They can be massive and able to pull other passing stars closers. Their brightness is always an important key to astronomers, because it help determine other features of the stars. One of the most useful uses for each type of stars is helping measure intergalactic distances. With this it helps scientists Each one being as special as the next.

Binary and Cepheid Variable stars are different in many ways. Binary stars have many classifications, or types, while Cepheids' pulsate. Binaries consist of 2 stars while Cepheids' can have a different number of stars. The binaries are also the most common of stars. Cepheids' have a different eclipsing system then binaries by its angle.
Galaxy home to some 250 Cepheid Variable Stars
Cepheid Variable stars are known as pulsating stars or “ standard candles “. They get the name “pulsating stars “ from the way that the star brightens and dims over time. Their gas heats and cools, expands and contracts in a cycle. They brighten and dim in a predictable cycle that can range to days or months. By timing the light pulsations astronomers can determine how bright the stars are by nature. Scientists compare their natural brightness to how bright they appear from our viewing point on Earth. The star will appear dimmer the farther away the star is from Earth, and from this they get the nickname “ standard candles “. With these stars astronomers can estimate the distances between galaxies and the rate of expansion of the universe.

Binary stars are very common stars. It consists of 2 stars orbiting the center of mass, a common point. It has a primary, brighter, and secondary, dimmer, star. ( also classified as A and B ). Based on the stars orbit, features and measurements they can be classified as: wide, close, visual, spectroscopic, eclipsing, etc. binaries. The first binaries were discovered as visual binaries, and the term binary was referenced by Sir William Hershchel, who categorized around 700 pairs of stars. Binary stars are made by either by stars traveling around the galaxy and sometime a massive star will capture a passing one, and a new binary pair is then create ( this is a rare event ). Most often a collection of dust and gas collapses on itself, forming a star that splits into 2 or more stars instead. Although how the pair of stars are created depends on their distance between each other. With these stars scientists have created a system that helps them calculate a stars mass, size, temperature, and radius.
These stars are some of the most interesting of objects in the universe. Billions upon billions in different galaxies and all over the universe yet to be discovered. Today scientist still continue to study these star and their interesting forms, cycles and orbits for scientific research. They still fascinate the world as we know it.
There are many objects in our universe that we have discovered. Stars are some of the most interesting to astronomers. They come in different sizes, quantities, and sometime even color. Two of the most common types of stars are binary and Cepheid variable stars. Each having different classifications and even nicknames. To use they dot the night sky, all the while those dots fascinate astronomers still to this day.
