1837: The Farmer's Revolt

Historic Character

Tiger Dunlop – In reality Tiger Dunlop is a legend. A man who went to India for unknown reasons, he was in the army, graduated university with a medical degree, gave anyone a loan no matter how absurd the request would’ve been. He was smart, adventurous, and kept to himself. In the play Tiger Dunlop is asked to help the Farmer’s Revolt and he lets Mackenzie tell him about his idea for the revolt and the reasons behind it. After Mackenzie tells his story, Tiger Dunlop sympathizes highly with the farmers; however he refuses to join them and stays to himself. I think this is an accurate portrayal of Tiger Dunlop. Tiger Dunlop is a highly educated man who cares for people, but at the same time he is quite adventurous and likes to stick to himself and not join into the feuds of others. With this being said I think that if Tiger Dunlop was really asked to join the Revolt the play shows an accurate summation of how it would go.
