Lesson: It's O.K. to not always be right and it's also O.K. to budge to one side or the other in your opinion if you change your mind.

Females/Males: Both are male, and the story kind of gave off a "stubborn old man" feel, perhaps saying that men are more steadfast in their opinions than women.

Values: Loosely tied back to having manners.

Ethnic Group(s): They are both Zaks; and they act the same

Other concepts: none

The zaks by Dr. Seuss

Socialization Through and By Children's Books

The Sneeches By Dr. Seuss

Lesson: No matter what you look like, we are all people (or Sneeches) and all the money in the world cannot change how we feel about ourselves on the inside.

Females/Males: No discussion/separation of male/female roles.

Values: Equality (and an underlying message against antisemitism conveyed in the satire); Agree

Ethnic Group(s): Star-bellied and non-star-bellied

Other Concepts: Looking Glass Self (how other people see me due to my star or no star) and Anticipatory Socialization (the original non-star-bellied wanted to be included in the star-bellied's fun).

The Polar express

Lesson: Our ability to believe in the dreams of our childhood create our innocence that is robbed from us as we mature. There is a message of hope for all generations.

Females/Males: The males play a more important role as believers in Santa and for portraying the main character, the boy in the pajamas, Santa Claus, the conductor, the pictures reveal that the hot cocoa servers were all male. The females play the role of sympathy when the boy loses his bell and then the first role of doubt when they mature, the mother is the first to sympathize that the bell is "broken" and along the way, Sarah, the boy's sister, loses her ability to hear the sweet toll.

Values: Believing in something is better than living in a world where there isn't any joy. Yes, I do believe in this value because this is what makes life enjoyable.

Ethnic Groups: Religious beliefs (Christianity=Ethnoreligious), African-American-Portrayed as a minority, only one is illustrated in the book , Caucasian-Portrayed as a majority, nearly everyone could be considered Caucasian minus 1.

Other Concepts: Looking glass self (how people see me for what I do or do not believe)
