Gender schemas

Children learn their gender schemas from interactions with other children and adults, as well as from TV.

They learn what toys are appropriate for each gender, what clothes to wear etc.

These schemas are like personal theories!

A schema is...

... a mental representation of an aspect of the world. It's a cluster of items that when placed together represent a concept. It's more complex than a stereotype because we use it to make inferences and generate expectations.
